No Man's Sky Discoveries, or NMS Disco for short, was created to help better focus on the exploration and discoveries portion of the game through utilization of robust cargo templates. NMS Disco's extensive usage of cargo templates allows for semi-automated pages which take most of the work out of documenting discoveries!

What NMS Disco is and isn't

NMS Disco seeks to help make documentation easier and provide the tools for proper data analysis. NMS Disco does not seek to "recreate the wheel" and believes other NMS wikis are still useful for providing more general content. Editors are encouraged to add whatever support pages they may require to assist in their research, provided the information added is original work. Editors are discouraged from simply copying page information from other sources.

Comparing NMS Disco to other NMS wikis

With limited NMS wiki choices out there, it is good to know the pros of each available option.

Official NMS Wiki pros

  • Broad range of articles, covering all aspects of the game.
  • Extremely active community admins.
  • Very stable wiki servers which maximize up-time and minimize page load times.
  • By far the oldest and most extensive NMS wiki, making it the best option for most prospective editors.

NMS Diso wiki pros

  • More narrowed topic focus, allowing editors to focus on what they deem important. The discoveries!
  • Forms are provided to make page creation quick and easy. When making any new page, these forms will be automatically available for selection, along with other options allowing editors to pick what works best for them.
  • Robust cargo tables which include all of the necessary parameters needed for in-depth data analysis. Each cargo table also includes several generic custom parameters which can be used by any editor as they might require for special projects. More editorial freedom is often required when creating larger projects. NMS Disco understands this.
  • No ads! This wiki's host, Miraheze is a non-profit organization which dedicates itself to an ads free user experience.
  • Informational icons automatically add themselves to discovery pages, allowing for important stats to be seen at a glance. Discovery pages affected include economic information for systems, weather and sentinel warnings for planets and moons, and dangerous creature alerts for fauna pages, just to name a few.
  • Semi-automated pages which greatly speed up the documentation process.
    • Simply fill out a page's infobox and add pictures to its gallery. The rest of the page will write itself! (Save twice when making a new page or altering information in an existing page's infobox. The first time saves the information to cargo, the second time retrieves it from cargo and populates it on the page. Server delays will often require a bit of time to pass between the two saves before it registers on a page. 'Ctrl' + 'F5' can be used to force a page to reload.)
    • Discoveries automatically place themselves on their related pages. For example, systems will automatically file themselves under regions. Planets and moons file themselves under their systems. Creatures, flora, and minerals file themselves under the world they were discovered on. No more wasting time manually cross-linking pages.
    • Page automation decreases update time and increases consistency across pages.
    • By only needing to fill out a new page's infobox, not only is time saved, but the chances of making transcription errors are greatly reduced.
    • Adding extra custom information is easy and can still be done so manually on any page. Just place it below the appropriate section's automated template.
    • Use of the automated templates is not required. Should an editor have other needs, or simply prefer the more manual approach to page creation, they are welcome to do so.
