From No Man's Sky Discoveries

This page provides a list of important information to No Man's Sky Discoveries and its editors.

Forms extension is reenabled. [October 29, 2023]

The forms extension has been updated and is fully functional again.

Forms extension temporarily at reduced functionality. [August 27, 2023]

The forms extension, which this wiki uses extensively, is currently at reduced functionality since its last update. Miraheze has been notified but do not have an ETA for correction. Due to their currently limited staff, it is likely to be a long-term issue.

Specifically, default settings for newly created pages using forms are not generating. Existing pages updated using forms will lose all of their extra test information. Due to these limitations, it is suggested to instead use the Preloaded Templates when making new pages and only manually edit existing pages.

Forms updated to include Mac. [June 1, 2023]

The Platform parameter for all discovery forms have been included to include an option to select Mac.

Cargo extension was temporarily down. [April 17, 2023]

The Cargo extension, which this wiki uses extensively, was temporarily down for the last week. Due to this, many pages are displaying cargo errors which look like computer code starting with "#cargo". This issue can be fixed by editing and resaving the page, but should clear itself up on its own with time.

While Cargo was down, many discovery types had their auto-generating page descriptions disabled. They are being reenabled as swiftly as possible. As this is being done, their autogenerating code is being reworked to function without Cargo as much as possible. Once finished, this will have the added benefit of much faster loading discovery pages.

Forms updated to include Switch. [February 27, 2023]

The Platform parameter for all discovery forms have been included to include an option to select Nintendo Switch.

Wiki skin changed. [June 8, 2022]

Miraheze, our wiki's host, is updating to the latest version of Mediawiki. As a result, some of the older skins will no longer function, such as the Pivot skin which used to be used on this site. NMS Disco has switched to the closest looking skin available, which is Vector. As a result of the switch some page layouts may be broken until they are discovered and updated.

Jellyfish subtypes have been expanded for Outlaws Update. [May 30, 2022]

The Outlaws update expanded Jellyfish to now include the previously extinct Sea Slugs as a new subtype. The Jellyfish class page has been updated to reflect all of the new appearances of this subtype.

Be aware some previously discovered jellyfish species have changed their form to that of the Sea Slug subtype, making them Polymorphic Species. Some existing jellyfish will be found with a new name despite having identical statistics, making them Divergent Species.

All Zoology scores have been updated for Frontiers. [September 5, 2021]

The Frontiers update increased the Zoology nanites reward given for discovering all creatures on a world from 50/creature to 250/creature. All world and system pages on NMS Disco have been updated to reflect this change. If you see any parts of the automated page descriptions still reflecting the lower Zoology calculations, please send a message to wiki admin.

As a reminder, manually including the Zoology parameter is considered outdated for all Planet and Moon pages and, if included, is unused for the page descriptions as it is automatically calculated from a world's Fauna_count parameter. For any pages which still have the Zoology parameter included in the infobox block, it can be left as is or removed at the page owner's discretion without affecting the page description.

Automated creature awards have been improved. [August 12, 2021]

Fauna page awards are now much clearer and more varied. Previously, trophies were awarded to creatures which were of the largest size in meters and included ties of the same size, from both this wiki and other sources. That system has been shifted to a new Creature Tier system of measurement. Using Creature Tiers standardizes all of the classes with each other and allows for creatures of exceptionally rare size to be quickly identified, with those of Tier 1 being the rarest. As before, all creatures of the same class and tier are "tied" for being the same size in meters. Creatures of extreme enough size to make one of the tiers will have a colored banner automatically displayed on their page. See Creature Tiers for more information.

Trophies are now only awarded to the top five largest/smallest creatures documented on this wiki of each class and subtype, making them much more rarely rewarded. Ribbons are similarly rewarded to creatures, but on a regional basis, allowing everyone to have fun discovering noteworthy creatures. Creatures which might qualify for multiple trophies and/or ribbons will only display a single one, which defaults to the most noteworthy award available.

Discovery page automation is now more elegant. [February 22, 2021]

Unused automated page sections are now a thing of the past for Region, System, Plant, and Moon pages, giving their discovery pages a cleaner look. New pages are no longer cluttered with headers they don't yet use. Have a well documented system with pages for all its worlds, starships, freighters, multi-tools, and everything else? Like magic, all of the appropriate sections appear, automatically listing everything in its proper place. The only other sections/headers which remain are Additional Information and Gallery, allowing page authors to add in any extra notes or pictures they may wish to include.

Support for documenting Companions has been added. [February 21, 2021]

Companions can now be documented and have been given NMS Disco's full range of support including automatically provided preload and form options for creating new pages. As with all discoveries documented on this wiki, merely fill out their infobox and the rest of the page automatically writes itself and links itself into all of the appropriate places!

Support for documenting Derelict Freighters has been added. [February 13, 2021]

Boardable Derelict Freighters can now be documented and have been given NMS Disco's full range of support including automatically provided preload and form options for creating new pages. As with all discoveries documented on this wiki, merely fill out their infobox and the rest of the page automatically writes itself and links itself into all of the appropriate places!

Creature Classification has been completed. [February 7, 2021]

NMS Disco's long running project of fully fleshing out each creature class has finally been finished. All individual class pages now contain complete descriptions, listing of subtypes, body part types, and rare accessories, each with example screenshots, and all fully aligned with the updated game code. A Creature Identification Key which can pinpoint any creature's class through a guided Q&A has also been included.

An "Orphaned Page" collection system has been added [January 31, 2021]

Pages on NMS Disco automatically link themselves into pages categorized above them. This means fauna, flora, minerals, and other discoveries file themselves under their associated world, which files itself under its parent system, etc. Should a discovery's parent page not exist, those discoveries would get lost and become "orphaned". Instead, any time a discovery's parent page not exist, it will now bump itself up to the next level. What does this mean for you? Now you can focus even more on the types of discoveries you like.

Support for documenting Multi-Tools has been added [January 31, 2021]

Multi-Tools can now be documented and have been given NMS Disco's full range of support including automatically provided preload and form options for creating new pages. As with all discoveries documented on this wiki, merely fill out their infobox and the rest of the page automatically writes itself and links itself into all of the appropriate places!

Space Encounter section has been improved [January 30, 2021]

Individual Space Encounter pages have been updated, with all of the remain encounter types documented. This section provides information for identifying various space encounters and how to best reap their rewards.

New streamlined preloads have been added [January 28, 2021]

New preloads have been added for specialized discoveries such as Freighters, Rock Creatures, and Sandworms. These streamlined preloads have only the parameters they need, skipping those they never use, making new page creation easier than ever. Like all other preloads, they are automatically available when making any new page. Look for them on the new Extra Options tab.

Forms have been added for Flora, Minerals, and Starships [January 23, 2021]

With newly created forms, it is now easier than ever to add new Flora, Mineral and Starship discoveries. Links to each are automatically provided when making a new page.

Planetary features are now easier to find. [January 20, 2021]

Region and system pages now show special icons next to the names listed in their system and planet charts, making it much easier to find worlds with special planetary features such as Water Worlds, Paradise Worlds, Infected Worlds, Ghost Worlds, and Robotic Worlds. New parameters have been added to the associated forms to help facilitate this.

Fauna Classes have been updated [January 13, 2021]

Fauna classes have been updated to be more consistent with the new data revealed from current Ecosystem Tables and Archetypes. Class infoboxes have also been audited for accuracy with the current game version, which required some of the infobox parameters to be updated as well.

Ecosystem Archetypes have been added [January 11, 2021]

Datamining has revealed planetary ecosystems now each have an assigned Archetype which determines what fauna species will be present. Each Archetype will call upon one or more ecosystem tables. This feature did not exist before the Origins update. Pre-Origins, each world directly called a single ecosystem table per ecosystem. The addition of Archetypes, along with their ability to mix different creature tables, greatly increases the diversity of species classes possible on each world.

Ecosystem subtypes have been added. [January 10, 2021]

Datamining has revealed that ecosystems have visibly distinct subtypes. Pages for the Underground, Underwater, and Mountain ecosystems have been added, each with example pictures of their associated subtypes. While the Ground ecosystem does have subtypes, they have already been defined as Biomes and shall continue to use that classification system.

Biome pages now list all Biome Subtypes. [January 6, 2021]

The individual biome pages now all include detailed listings of all biome subtypes, most with example pictures for each subtype. This new information is a must-see for all planet hunting enthusiasts!

Please note that all biome subtypes have been taken directly from the game code and examples shown have been verified as being correct through the use of custom mods created specifically to confirm unlisted planetary statistics.

Fauna_count parameter no longer automated. [January 3, 2021]

The Fauna_count parameter of Planet and Moon pages is now a manually entered parameter. Reasons: Automation of this parameter was saving it to the proper Cargo table, but was not saving it to page infoboxes. It must first be saved to all world infoboxes before the related Zoology parameter can instead be automated.

Datamining reveals all worlds have a Terrain type. [January 3, 2021]

Datamining has revealed all worlds have one of ten Terrain types. These terrains govern a world's landscape generation and are independent from biomes; worlds can have any combination of the two. Research is now being conducted to find definitive examples of each terrain type, but for now we only know of their names. See the new Terrain page for more information.

Datamining reveals all biomes now have subtypes. [January 3, 2021]

Datamining has revealed the Origins update expanded world generation so that most biomes now have subtypes. Biome subpages have been updated to include this information, although examples of each are still being researched. To accommodate this change, the Planet and Moon Forms have been altered to allow a wider range of subtypes to be entered.

Planetary Biomes have been adjusted. [January 3, 2021]

In order to align with names listed in the game code, some planetary biomes have had their names changed. Specifically Irradiated was changed to Radioactive and Mega Exotic was split between the Red, Green, and Blue biomes, which are now referred to together as Chromatic worlds. This change will help better position the wiki to respond to the recent datamining discovery that all biomes now have subtypes, not just Exotics and Mega Exotics Chromatics.

Forms for discovery Category pages are now available. [December 30, 2020]

These new forms allow for the quick creation of Category pages for the major discovery types of Regions, Systems, Planets, and Moons. These Category forms preload themselves with all of their needed information, greatly speeding up the process of cataloging new discoveries! They are now automatically available to select when creating a new page.

Planet and Moon forms are now available. [December 25, 2020]

Forms have been created to help create new Planet and Moon pages. Like the previously available new Region and System forms, they help guide the page creation process with helpful notes and tooltips, empowering editors to catalog new worlds much quicker and with greater accuracy. For those still preferring a more hands-on approach to page creation, the original Preload pages will stay available. Now when creating new pages, editors will automatically be given links to each choice letting them create their pages their way.
