Rock Creature is a class of fauna in the No Man's Sky universe. They can be rarely encountered while mining rocks on any world.
Description
Unlike other classes, Rock Creatures do not count as a discovered species when scanned. They have no species name, nor do they have height or weight listings. All rock creatures display the same Behavior, Diet, and Notes when scanned but will display no other information. The actual size of an individual rock creature depends upon the size of the rock which triggered them.
Rock Creatures can be triggered from any type of rock which has a low amount of hit points. When triggered, the rock springs upwards into the air and sprouts legs, then runs away from the player after landing. Due to the rarity of large rock varieties with a small amount of hit points, most rock creatures discovered come from small rocks and thusly are of equally small size once revealed.
Leg Types
Rock Creatures have three leg types which are Crab, Tendril, and Spider. These are the only leg types which Rock Creatures can have. Species with Tendril legs always have eight legs, while those with Crab or Spider legs can have four, six, or eight legs. Different variants on the same planet will always have identical leg types and colouration.

Additional Information
- Rock Creatures can have any of the Spider leg types. All varieties on a given world will have the same leg type and leg coloration.
- Rock Creatures are most commonly found in the Ground ecosystem, but they can also be encountered in Mountains, Underground, and Underwater, provided appropriate low hit point rock varieties are available for mining.
- Their Behavior listing of "Easily startled" is ironic, given they often startle players as they spring upwards when revealing themselves.
- Rock Creatures do not respond to bait.
- Despite having the behavior of a Prey creature, predators ignore rock creatures as if they had the Passive role.
- Since the Origins update, larger rock creatures have a 20% chance of being hostile when they appear. This chance increases to 50% in Survival mode.
